SPBC’s recent survey PDF Print E-mail
Written by Steve Gronemeyer
Sunday, 25 July 2010 12:28
Thanks to all our members who completed SPBC’s recent survey.
With 15% of our membership responding, the top suggestions included:
  • Improve Safety: Far & away the most important issue
  • Increase Social activities
  • Increase Membership
  • Continue to contribute to local charities

Your BOD spent 2 evenings brainstorming ways to achieve those goals.
Your survey comments helped immensely. In the coming months look for new destination, progressive and/or novelty rides; alternate start times for new and inexperienced riders; group and pace-line training rides; and more.

You are the key to making these changes happen. We need members to step-up and volunteer to organize and participate in these events.
  • Initially we need 3 key people:
  • Volunteer coordinator
  • Education (Safety and Training) Coordinator
  • Social Coordinator

We recognize that that much of this will take time to develop and have set our goals to cover the next 18 months. Some people are “planners” and others are “doers”. We need both types to be successful. Please consider lending your skills to these efforts and contact me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Thanks to John Gissal and Aaron Deemer of St Pete Bicycle and Fitness for the July 22nd Flat Repair Clinic.

We all learned the proper techniques for making this road site repair.

And, of particular interest was how hard it is to mount a 20 year old tire with a wire-bead [snicker].

Shown below is our very own Joanie Flaherty.

St. Petersburg “Party In The Parks” Event PDF Print E-mail
Written by Rick Bley
Thursday, 15 July 2010 17:25

The SPBC has been invited to, and agreed to participate in the Centennial Celebration Party in the Parks, an exciting event that will bring thousands of people to the St. Petersburg waterfront to celebrate the splendor and history of our downtown waterfront parks.

This event will be an excellent opportunity for our club to promote itself and to make our interests and activities known to families, city residents and visitors.

The event is on November 6th. Tim anticipates that we would have a table, some chairs and the tent. We need volunteers, both Board and Club members to “man” the table, providing information to attendees on the SPBC and cycling in general.

Please indicate your willingness to help by contacting Tim directly, through the Google group, or by email.
