Did you ride with George Hincapie, Bobby Julich & Bob Roll?
by Bob Griedling
Ex-pros George Hincapie and Bobby Julich, along with special guest Bob Roll, joined the 400+ riders for this year’s edition of St. Pete Bike Club’s Cycling Classic. Bob and Bobby also regaled a Saturday crowd at The Bikery with stories from the road and, in Roll’s case, how to get rifles aimed at you by rollerblading in an Italian airport. Roll was in fine form!
The ride included four distances up to a full century on a day that was typical for this time of year with a temperature of 75 degrees. Food and beer at lunch. Five SAG stops with great fuel for the road. Early bird out-of-towners joined our club's regular Saturday morning rides throughout St. Petersburg and beyond.
We had great support from our sponsors, including our lead sponsor again this year, PSCU, along with:
Aeropro Coaching & Performance (SPBC member Pat Jennings)
AllCare Physical Therapy (SPBC member Russ Clifford)
Alternative Therapy Center (SPBC member Gina Hubany)

and thanks to past president Pat McNulty for his extra support as well.
Thanks to the many volunteers who registered riders, manned SAG stops, marked roads, loaded supplies, etc. The board, under the leadership of our Classic director this year, Frank Smith, came together to plan one of the best of our annual fundraising rides. And special thanks to John Sinibaldi for arranging Bob Roll’s appearance.
